Community Medicine

Community context is central to our patient care mission. Our program places residents in a wide range of clinical settings all across San Antonio – with special emphasis on serving those areas that are underserved. All residents participate in a Customs Oriented Primary Intendance program. This curricular expanse is scheduled both in longitudinal and block experiences during the 3 years of residency. Additional elective time is available. Community medicine experiences are developed and taught by Family unit Medicine faculty members.

Residents complete activities designed to familiarize them with customs resources and agencies. Residents gain experience in customs settings including school health centers, United Mode agencies, group homes, and nursing homes. Our faculty and residents also serve the community by participating in wellness fairs and other health promotion activities. Contempo Resident Scholarly Work We encourage our residents to participate in scholarly projects. Many of our residents accept had their work accustomed for publication, and they take a large number of works in progress. Several residents have presented work at national and regional meetings. Faculty members work with residents to develop the clinical inquiry skills need to flourish in the rapidly changing medical industry.

About our program

Welcome to Due south Texas' premier Family and Community Medicine Residency. Founded in 1972, our plan focuses on comprehensive family-oriented treat the underserved population of San Antonio and surrounding counties.

Our program is designed to emphasize the continuity that family physicians bask in their day-to-day practice. Patients visit our state-of-the-art Family unit Health Centre for outpatient medical and preventive intendance. When hospitalization or higher-level care is required, our patients are directly admitted to The Family Medicine Inpatient Service at Academy Hospital, San Antonio's best-ranked hospital.

Equally part of UT Health San Antonio, our program also has direct access to the in-depth expertise and rich resources of the university setting. This allows for close collaboration with other specialties and interdisciplinary experiences that enhance education. The residency programme also enjoys longstanding links to university research and policy units. In this way, residents are able to proceeds an appreciation of those higher-level issues that bear on patient intendance.

Our program emphasizes the teaching of our residents by highly skilled and experienced family unit medicine physicians. We are fully accredited past the ACGME and currently accept 15 PGY1 residents, 15 PGY2 residents and 15 PGY3 residents.

Mission

The mission of the Family Medicine Residency Program of the University of Texas Health Science Heart at San Antonio is to railroad train counterbalanced physicians. Our grooming sites focus on caring for an urban, underserved population, but our residents are prepared to be successful in a diversity of practice settings.

• Family Physicians trained past Family Physicians—70% of the curriculum is taught past Family Medicine Faculty.

Cardinal to our mission is the importance of the family and the community in the context of patient intendance.
